News and Updates
The Band Program and Kindergarten General Music classroom are all hoppin' at Dawson-Boyd! Check out our regularly updated blog to keep up with what is happening this school year.
Well, the first week of school at Dawson-Boyd and Stevens Elementary is in the books! This past week was full of introductions, our first sounds as groups, and the first performance at the home football game against St. Mary's.
Music filled the band room in many different ways this week! In Junior High Band, we did some rhythm games, learned about what it means to be sight reading 'STARS', and played some new concert band music. In Senior High Band, we sight read concert band music, learned some new warm-ups, and worked on pep band music for Thursday's football game. The night proved to be a success, as we had a great turn out and received fabulous feedback from members of the community. This week was also busy with Kindergarten General Music, as Mrs. Mork and Mrs. Schlemmer's classes learned songs including "No More Pie" and "The Great Big Moose", and were introduced to percussion instruments including the cabasa and maraca. Pictured below are a few photos from Thursday night's football game:
For me personally, this week was challenging and rewarding. I am thankful beyond belief to be in such a supportive community with wonderful colleagues and students. Dawson-Boyd is such a special place, and I am blessed to be a part of it. One week down, many more to go!
Hope you have a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend, Blackjacks!
Hello and welcome to the newly launched web page for the Dawson-Boyd Band Program and Kindergarten General Music classroom! Feel free to navigate the above tabs to explore the pages for each of the core and extracurricular instrumental ensembles, Kindergarteners, and my personal favorite, the Links and Resources tab. Each of the pages will be consistently updated throughout the year, but this blog will be the main source of news and updates for the happenings of our program. Here, we will celebrate successes inside and outside of the classroom and keep you updated on events surrounding all groups.
This is my first year of teaching (and my first time living in a small town), and I can already sense how wonderful and supportive of a community Dawson is. We have a great year ahead, filled with community building and quality music making - can you believe that the first day of school is in 25 days?! But really, who's counting?
Have a great rest of your summer and see you soon,
