News and Updates
The Band Program and Kindergarten General Music classroom are all hoppin' at Dawson-Boyd! Check out our regularly updated blog to keep up with what is happening this school year.
Hello, Dawson-Boyd Band Families!
It's hard to believe that October is already here - it seems like the first day of school was just yesterday. The happenings of the Dawson-Boyd Band Program has been incredibly busy. Here are some of the things we have been up to:
SENIOR HIGH BAND
In senior high band, we have been working on repertoire for our fall concert on November 10th, 2016, our Veterans Day Program on November 11th, and will slowly but surely begin our repertoire for the Christmas Concert on December 12th. It has been very exciting to see the concert repertoire come together and the students have been working incredibly hard. I'm so proud of how far we've come so far this year. And not only that, but with homecoming week upon us, we have a lot to be proud of! Congratulations to the following band members who are 2016-17 class representatives and homecoming court members:
9th Grade: Josh Anyasike and Avery Bartunek
10th Grade: Olivia Stratmoen
11th Grade: Katherine Frank
Senior Boys: Mason Hutt, Jaramey Johnson, Levi Loose, and Cody McKesson
Senior Girls: Madeline Aafedt, Sydney Bartunek, and Alisa Fenske
Homecoming week is bound to be a blast, thanks to the leadership of those on our court and beyond! We will be playing at Coronation (with a select group of students), and hopefully at both of the volleyball games this week. Not only that, but Friday's football game will feature a Dawson-Boyd Student and Alumni Pep Band! Alumni and students will meet in the band room at 5:00 pm on Friday, October 7th, rehearse some of the pep band repertoire, and perform before the game and at halftime!
JUNIOR HIGH BAND
The junior high band has also been working hard on their concert repertoire. We have been reviewing many different musical terms, getting used to playing in cut time, and rehearsing new music. Lots of laughs have been had, as well as many meaningful musical moments. REMINDER: The October Practice Log has been posted on the Junior High Band page - be sure to keep track of your practice time and be honest, 7th and 8th graders!
SIXTH GRADE BAND
Sixth grade band lessons have begun! It has been wonderful to see the excitement in the eyes of the sixth graders as they have been starting their musical journey - and we have 23 students beginning instruments from flute to trumpet to percussion. How exciting! Just a reminder to sixth grade parents that students will need to purchase the 'Tradition of Excellence: Book 1' from Sarlette's or Music Street and be sure to pay the $25.00 instrument rental fee.
That's all for now - I am looking forward to Homecoming Week! Here are the spirit days:
Monday: Lake Day
Tuesday: Pajama Day
Wednesday: Color Day/Crazy Hair Day
Thursday: Dressy vs. Messy
Friday: Black and Gold Day
